Appetizer Week: Ya Li Pear Salsa

Don’t miss Joss & Main’s Storage Tower Giveaway ending 1st November 2014!

I love mini bites at the buffet or all-you-can-eat line almost as much as the main meals. I find the appetizer options really interesting! Who knew salads come in so many different iterations and incarnations. To be honest, when I was younger, I would just stroll past the salad bar and make an instant beeline for the roasts, soups, desserts. Nowadays, I make sure I sample a few salads before even considering what’s on the roast station.

Having said that, I wanted to celebrate salads & appetizers with 5 recipes all of this week. The holiday season is about to dawn upon us and I think these are perfect salads to start your gatherings with!

Let’s kick off Appetizer Week with a somewhat fusion chunky salsa. 🙂 Ya Li pears are pretty common here. It’s sweet juicy watery crunch is perfect for salads… not sure why I never think of using it more often!

Let’s get out what we need! Ya Li Pear, Tomato, Japanese Cucumber, Avocado, Shallots, Lime, Lemon, Coriander, Salt & Pepper. (Yup… filter OVERLOAD!!! – sorry)
Yup... filter OVERLOAD!!! - sorry

I almost always forget but it’s super crucial to core cucumbers when using them for salads or salsa. The seed & core membrane is too watery and can dilute/flood the entire salad.

What’s salsa if not a simple chopped salad.

With everything in the bowl cut to relatively the same size, all we need to do is toss!!

All mixing and mingling together.

This is going to go so well with roast something.

 That’s probably your 5-a-day in a bowl, I’d say. 🙂

Do you approve of my fusion-sorta chunky salsa?

Up tomorrow will be an interesting but very very easy salad consisting almost entirely of mushroom. Stay tuned!

  1. This salad looks so yummy (and has been pinned)! Do you think other pears and cucumbers would work well also? Thanks so much for sharing with Merry Monday Link Up. 🙂

    • Thanks Danielle! I suppose other pears & cucumbers would work but pears like Anjou or Bartlett may be a little too grainy and soft for this. I would go for fruits that can hold up better & some watery crunch is great! If you do try this out, let me know. 😉
