ABC Braised Chicken Wings

I meant to make soup the other night and thought I had some pork spare ribs in my freezer. It happens sometimes when I assume and don’t check. At least for cooking, you can maneuver around these oversights. When it comes to baking, you’re done for if you’re halfway through the batter and realize you don’t have eggs or baking soda.

Lesson: check your supplies. *applicable for every sphere of life

Since I was craving the flavours of ABC Soup, I figure it’ll work in a braise. Which I found out is no more difficult than making soup. Just toss all these things into a pot, add a cup of water and let things simmer until they’re done.

I had dinner ready in 35 minutes. The lovely thing about chicken wings is that they really hold up in a braise or stew. It’s important to get them out right as they’re cooked.

I really think wings are visually pleasing. And because they’re quite thin with bones inside, flavours really get absorbed in very well. I didn’t even need to marinade anything.

So the lesson is that food and cooking are versatile. Flavors can be replicated into different forms.

Ingredients
  • 5 Chicken Wings
  • 3 Potatoes, peeled & cut into large chunks
  • ½ Carrot, peeled & cut into chunks
  • 1 large Red Onion, peeled & quartered
  • 1 Tomato
  • 4 Cloves Garlic, peeled
  • 1 tbsp Canola Oil
  • 2 tbsp Oyster Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Sweet Soy Sauce (Kecap Manis, or sub with ½ tbsp Soy Sauce & ½ tsp Sugar)
  • pinch of Salt & ground Black Pepper
  • ½ cup Water
Steps
  1. In a large skillet or pan, heat canola oil on MED heat.
  2. Toss in garlic & onion. Stir around for about ½ a minute until fragrant.
  3. Add in potatoes, carrots, tomato & chicken wings.
  4. Pour in oyster sauce, soy sauce, kecap manis & water.
  5. Bring to a simmer. Add in ground black pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  6. Adjust seasoning with salt. Turn heat up to reduce sauce if needed.
  7. Serve immediately.
